“The Colored Girl”
The part of the reading that caught my attention was the second paragraph of page 154. It starts off by stating that colored girls want to be respected and believed in. Colored girls have endured so much in their past history that just being respected as a human being that can stated her opinion on issues was very desirable. They really want to be respected by people who considered themselves better than her (ie.white men and women) and also by the men of their own race. Towards the end of the paragraph it states than colored men really do not appreciate or uplift African American Women. It also states that colored women want men to take a stand and start appreciating and valuing their colored women and show them some support. On the Whole, African American women struggle in many ways and fight just to be accepted and African American men should fight just as hard for their women.
